In year’s past, they have had jets fly over and sometimes even paratroopers drop in prior to the race. In addition, flowers are given to each runner to drop at the Veterans’ Memorial to honor fallen service members. The course is 4.4 miles from one gate to the other, but all along the way are water stations and even a fire hose at one point showering runners with welcome relief.
