The Cobia World Championships in Destin!

One of the most exciting events of the year is going on now in Destin – the running of the Cobia! Cobia season started late last month and will officially end on May 9, 2016, so book your Gulf Coast vacation now if you love to fish.

With Cobia season in full swing comes one of Destin’s favorite events, the Cobia World Championships! It is easy to participate in the tournament if you are interested! All you have to do is schedule a fishing trip with one of our local Destin charter boats. Once aboard, hit the open water with your bow or pole to see if you can reel in the big one. All of the proceeds from the tournament are going to benefit Take-A-Kid Fishing Day and in previous years participants have won over $300,000 in cash prizes.

One of the tournament's best events just wrapped up. The Crab Cruncher saw Team Outcast take first place – and over $58,000 in prize money – home with a whopper of a fish at 71.9 pounds. Fish this season have ranged from the high 50-pounders all the way up to over 70. That’s some good eatin’!

The Cobia World Championship tournament is hosted by a popular local Destin restaurant, Harbor Docks. So, even if you are not interested in hitting the water and doing a little fishing,  you can enjoy a delicious meal and watch as the fish get weighed in on the docks behind the restaurant.
