Southern Seared Tuna Kebabs ~ The Southern Scoop’s Recipe of the Month

Fire up the grill – summer is here! There’s little we love more than grilling outdoors in the summertime (accompanied by a nice cold glass of our Southern Summer Sangria!). This month, we’re bringing you one of our favorite from-the-grill recipes. Our Southern Seared Tuna Kebabs fall on the lighter side of summer fare, since the vegetables and tuna are not as heavy as some other barbecue recipes you might find. This is one recipe it’s okay to over-indulge in! With the added flavor from our secret ingredient, Montreal Steak Seasoning, the tuna sure does pack a punch. If you’re looking for the best tuna kebab recipe out there, this is it! We couldn’t get enough of this ourselves when we made it. Believe us when we say there won’t be any leftovers!

You won’t need many ingredients to make our Southern Seared Tuna Kebabs. About 1 and a half pounds of sushi-grade tuna will make about eight kebabs, and you’re free to use as many or as little vegetables as you want. We used red bell peppers, but you can use green, yellow, or orange depending on your preference. Be sure to pick up your tuna from a local seafood market to get guaranteed fresh fish! Sexton’s Seafood Market in Destin, Joe Patti’s in Pensacola, or Gulf Shores Seafood in Gulf Shores are our top picks.

If you’re staying in one of our vacation rentals on the beach and you’ve got a gas or charcoal grill, you won’t want to wait to try out this recipe! If you don’t have a grill, you can also make this recipe at home on a cast iron skillet. We hope you enjoy our Southern Seared Tuna Kebabs!

What You’ll Need:

Sushi-grade tuna Bell peppers
Cherry tomatoes Red onions
Baby portobello mushrooms Montreal Steak Seasoning

Be sure to also pick up skewers for the kebabs, about 8″ long. If you use bamboo skewers, soak them in water for an hour or more before cooking to prevent catching fire!

*Optional: lemon juice to add some extra flavor after the tuna is cooked.

Preparation:

  1. Rinse all vegetables before preparing! Chop peppers and onions into bite-size pieces. Leave the mushrooms and cherry tomatoes whole.
  2. Cut the tuna into 1″ cubes and season with Montreal Steak Seasoning. Rub the seasoning into the tuna.
  3. Prepare your kebabs! We garnished ours like so: onions, tomato, peppers, tuna, tomato, onions, pepper, mushrooms. However, this is completely up to you depending on your preference! Add more tuna, create kebabs with only tuna and only vegetables – it’s up to you!
  4. Set your grill or skillet to medium-high heat with olive or avocado oil. Sear for 2-3 minutes per side. For crispier vegetables, prepare skewers with vegetables only and cook 10-12 minutes per side. (Optional: sprinkle lemon juice onto the tuna after it cooks)

Enjoy!
