Southern Rentals and Real Estate has teamed up with the American Red Cross to help raise money for the flood victims in Louisiana. The flooding has caused families to be displaced, homes to be destroyed, and communities to be torn apart. Southern is dedicated to helping the people of Louisiana rebuild their lives in the aftermath of this disaster. To show our support we will donate $5 for every paid vacation rental reservation made from September 1-15, 2016. Please help us reach our goal and contribute to the relief efforts in the wake of this tragedy.
Over ten days in August of 2016, an unnamed storm dropped 7.1 trillion gallons of water on the coastal areas of Louisiana. Yes, trillion. That is three times the amount of rain the area experienced with Hurricane Katrina. With little to no warning, rain fell in tremendous amounts, filling the lake and rivers that surround the areas of Baton Rouge and Lafayette. According to the National Weather Service, there was less than a 0.1% chance that this amount of rain could possibly fall over such a short amount of time in this area. Yet, it did. As the torrential downpour flooded the area, people desperately tried to save their own lives and their families by looking for higher ground. An estimated 146,000 homes were damaged with some parishes considered so badly destroyed that they may never be able to recover.
Please help us as we extend our support and resources to our friends in Louisiana who have been struck by this devastating event. We are dedicated to providing as much help as we can, and for each reservation made from September 1st through the 15th, we are donating $5 per reservation. You can also contribute directly to the flood relief fundraiser via our page on Crowdrise. Some relief efforts have already begun, but it is going to take an incredible amount of work and time to help this community rebuild. Please help in any way you can.
