How to Get to Shell Island in Panama City Beach
Getting to Shell Island is easy! Simply head to St. Andrew’s State Park and hop aboard the shuttle. It will carry you to and from Shell Island. The shuttle operates every 30 minutes from 9 am until 4 pm every day of the week during the summer. In the spring and fall, the shuttle departs every hour from 9 am until 4 pm Tuesday through Saturday. Of course, the shuttle only operates if weather and water conditions permit it to. Because of this, be sure to check the forecast before heading out!
What to Do
When you get to the island, experience the many activities along the shore! You can snorkel, swim, go for walks through the coastal shrub and grass terrain, and so much more. Beach chairs and umbrellas are available for rent, but you can also bring your own, as well as any other beach gear. Be sure to bring a cooler with plenty of snacks and sunscreen to be fully prepared for your day at Shell Island.
Keep your eye on the water, as dolphins are known to make the occasional appearance. St. Andrew Bay is home to one of the largest concentrations of bottle-nosed dolphins in the world! Shell Island is also home to other wildlife including hawks, marsh rabbits, deer, and more. If you see sea turtle nests, be sure to leave them alone and pick up after yourself to ensure the newly hatched turtles can find their way to the sea. Learn more about sea turtle safety on our blog.
