OWA Amusement Park Is Now Open
For the past year, we have been waiting to hear these words: OWA Amusement Park is now open! Located in Foley, just north of Gulf Shores, OWA is the newest amusement park in the Southeast. It rivals the likes of Six Flags and was created with the aim of providing affordable, family-friendly fun in Coastal Alabama.
Established by a local Native American tribe, OWA means “big water” in the Muscogee Creek language. OWA is the Poarch Band of Creek Indians’ first non-gaming endeavor in Alabama. Instead, OWA provides entertainment and activities for both locals and tourists.
OWA offers thrill rides, and soon, a multitude of shopping and dining options! Of its 21 rides, seven are filled with heart-pumping, adrenaline-boosting twists and turns. These include the Air Race, Alabama Wham’a, Crazy Mouse, Freedom Flyer, Twister, Wave Ride, and of course the 125-foot-tall Rollin’ Thunder Coaster. In fact, Rollin’ Thunder’s track is longer than it is tall, running nearly the length of the entire park. Not to mention, you’ll enjoy inversions, corkscrews, and vertical drops.
To accommodate even the tiniest ones’ sense of adventure, OWA offers six kiddie rides and eight family-friendly rides. Additionally, future shops include Sunglass World, Alvin’s Island, Hershey’s Ice Cream Shop, Utopia and more.
