One of the most popular activities in Northwest Florida and along Alabama’s Gulf Coast is without a doubt fishing. And, our fishing tournaments are popular with anglers, as well as those who love to watch the weigh-ins.
Whether you travel to the beaches of Northwest Florida and Coastal Alabama specifically to fish, whether in a tournament or just for fun, a walk along the docks to check out what our little fishing communities is all about is a great vacation activity, especially if you are on vacation in Destin, Pensacola Beach and Orange Beach. Red Snapper is in season so this is an especially exciting time, made even more fun with the addition of several local fishing tournaments taking place this June.
The first tournament taking place this month will happen near our Perdido Key condo rentals and vacation rentals in Orange Beach at the Flora-Bama. The Flora-Bama Fishing Rodeo will kick off on June 10, 2016 and run through June 12, 2016. This is the third annual tournament and features a kids’ division, as well as divisions for adults and competitive anglers. Awards range from $1,000 to $5,000 and also include a “boatload of prizes.”
Another popular tournaments is the Emerald Coast Blue Marlin Classic which will be held June 22-26, 2016 at the Village of Baytowne Wharf Marina. Fishing begins that Thursday, with weigh-ins beginning as early as Friday. Even if you aren’t out fishing, we encourage you to stop in to the weigh-ins each day. In addition to video verification of each fish, you can also enjoy food, live music and even fireworks!
If you haven’t fished out waters, but would like to, you can experience it without a license the first two weekends in June during your vacation in Northwest Florida. No pressure or a charter boat or impending weigh-in. Just head out on the first weekend in June to fish saltwater and the second weekend in June to try freshwater. And, remember, whether you cast off for the hundredth time or it’s your first time out, have fun!
