The holiday originated as a celebration of the Mexican Army’s victory over the French Empire at the Battle of Puebla on May 5th, 1862, and now is a celebration of Mexican-American pride. With fiestas galore at just about every turn, you’re bound to find something exciting, no matter where you celebrate Cinco de Mayo. If you’re staying with us in a vacation rental on the beach, then you’re in luck as numerous Cinco de Mayo celebrations are happening all weekend long. We’ve highlighted some exciting activities that will help you celebrate Cinco de Mayo, whether you’re a local or a vacationer. What better reason to enjoy some delicious tacos and margaritas? Celebrate Cinco de Mayo on 30A
Staying on Scenic 30A? Then check out the Cinco de Mayo Fiesta at The Hub in Watersound on May 5th. Beginning at 11 AM, treat yourself to half-price margaritas all day plus giveaways in the afternoon. Live music takes place from 3-6 PM. Then, spread out your blanket or bring a lawn chair for a screening of the animated film Coco at 7 PM. This event is family-friendly and fun for all ages, so come on down!
In addition, over in Blue Mountain Beach, local favorite restaurant Red Fish Taco is hosting their own Cinco de Mayo celebration from 12-11 PM. Celebrate with live music, dancing, tacos, and tequila!
Celebrate Cinco de Mayo in Destin
If you’ve ever celebrated Cinco de Mayo in Destin, then you’ll know the area offers no shortage of fun! HarborWalk is throwing is annual Cinco de Mayo party on Sunday, May 5th from 2-4 PM. This family-friendly event also features kids’ crafts, face painting, and more! At 3 PM, get your swinging arm ready to help break the harbor’s largest pinata filled with candy and treats.
Celebrate Cinco de Mayo on Pensacola Beach
For those staying on Pensacola Beach, create your own Cinco de Mayo celebration with a taco crawl! There are so many delicious restaurants on Pensacola Beach that you’d be remiss not to try them all. Start at Native Cafe and treat yourself to either the Florida Fish Tacos, Shrimp Tacos, or Native Tacos. Shaggy’s on Pensacola Beach features Beach Tacos, served with either fresh fish or shrimp, fried or grilled. With an extensive margarita list to boot, you’ll be as happy as a clam!
Two more delicious spots for tacos on Pensacola Beach are Red Fish Blue Fish and The Grand Marlin. At Red Fish Blue Fish, it’s “taco time” with fish, steak, or shrimp tacos. The steak tacos are the perfect way to enjoy tacos on Cinco de Mayo, with three skirt steak tacos, tomatillo salsa, marinated radish slaw, pickled onions, diced tomato, and crumbled cotija cheese, served in warm corn or flour tortillas. At The Grand Marlin, you must try the Blackened Fish Tacos, featuring white corn tortillas, pepper jack cheese, jalapeno slaw, pico de gall, avocado, and chipotle aioli.
Celebrate Cinco de Mayo in Gulf Shores
Meanwhile, over in Gulf Shores, keep the Cinco de Mayo fiesta going all weekend long at Margarita Loca Bar & Grill. From Friday, May 3rd to Sunday, May 5th, they’re offering 10% off all entrees along with drink specials and an inflatable bounce house for kids on May 5th! Another local favorite in Gulf Shores is Bar 45, who will be hosting their own Cinco de Mayo festival all day long on May 5th. Come out for live music, dancing, festive food, and more!
